Meridian Life Sciences - Chicken Antibodies (Animal Immunoglobulins)

Advantages of using chicken antibodies include:

• Chickens are more likely to produce high affinity antibodies to mammalian antigens.
• For antibody production, the hen is immunized, but the antibodies are actually collected from the eggs. It is not necessary to bleed the chickens.
• Bulk production capabilities: a single hen can lay enough eggs to produce up to 3 grams of IgY per month, which is 10-20 times the yield from a rabbit per month.
• The Fc region of chicken IgY is different from mammalian IgG, thus reducing background by not binding to mammalian rheumatoid factors (RF) or Human anti-Mouse antibodies (HAMA).
• Chicken antibodies do not bind to Staphylococcus Protein A. Therefore they are used as the primary antibody for Protein A detection.

8-hydroxy-2-deoxy Guanosine (8-OH-dG) is produced by the oxidative damage of DNA by reactive oxygen and nitrogen species and serves as an established marker of oxidative stress.1-4 Hydroxylation of guanosine occurs in response to both normal metabolic processes and a variety of environmental factors (i.e., anything that increases reactive oxygen and nitrogen species). Increased levels of 8-OH-dG are associated with the aging process as well as with a number of pathological conditions including cancer, diabetes, and hypertension.
