TECHNICAL REPORT

HumanZyme - Authentic Recombinant Activin A and BMP-4 Production Using HumanZyme’s Proprietary Human Cell Line Expression Technology

Human TGF-ß superfamily cytokine expression and secretion involves multi-step posttranslational processing in vivo. The in vitro production of these proteins including Activin A and BMP-4 in non-human cell expression systems lacking this processing machinery (E. coli, SF9, CHO) often results in a mixture of precursor and mature proteins misformed disulfide bonds, and missing or incorrect glycosylation. To meet the increasing demands for recombinant human Activin A and BMP-4 for stem cell and cell therapy research, HumanZyme has utilized their proprietary human cell (HEK293) expression system for production of HumanKine® Activin A and BMP-4 as the correct, mature, fully processed, active protein with authentic folding, glycosylation, subunit assembly, and disulfide linkages.  Click here to read more.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

AUM BioTech – Awards, Presentations and Publications Using FANA Oligos for RNA Silencing Studies

Researchers working with AUM’s innovative and exciting RNA silencing technology were recently featured at the annual Oligonucleotide Therapeutics Society (OTS) Meeting in Montreal, Canada. OTS is a premiere meeting focused on therapeutic development using RNA silencing and regulation approaches.

  • Dr. Alan Gewirtz Award Scholarship Recipient:  AUM’s self-deliverable FANA ASOs can effectively target and knock down HIV RNA in human primary cells without causing toxicity by Dr. Mayumi Takahashi from the laboratory of Dr. John Rossi.  
     
  • Poster Presentation (Travel Grant Recipient):  AUM FANA antisense technology was shown to offer high specificity and efficacy for allele specific silencing in certain neurodegenerative disorders by Dr. Haiyan Zhou from the laboratory of Dr. Francesco Muntoni.
     
  • Poster Presentation (Travel Grant Recipient):  Gymnotically delivered (self-delivered) FANA antagomirs targeted against miR130b were shown to reduce cancer cell motility and block cancer cell attachment to vascular walls in vivo by Dr. Lian Willets from the laboratory of Dr. John Lewis.

We are also pleased to announce the recent publication of the following article in Nature Publishing Group's Molecular Therapy—Nucleic Acids:

  • A certain variation of FANA oligos was shown to effectively downregulate both mRNA and protein expression of Bcl-2 in a difficult-to-transfect polarized epithelial cell monolayer in the absence of any delivery agent. Compared to conventional siRNAs and other oligo chemistries, FANA oligos were found to be most potent, efficient and caused no toxicity.  This study was lead by Dr. Jean-Christophe Leroux in collaboration with Dr. Masad Damha.

Meditation Keeps Emotional Brain in Check - by Jason Moser , Andy Henion

"Meditation can help tame your emotions even if you’re not a mindful person, suggests a new study from Michigan State University.  Reporting in the journal Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, psychology researchers recorded the brain activity of people looking at disturbing pictures immediately after meditating for the first time. These participants were able to tame their negative emotions just as well as participants who were naturally mindful."
